duCret is designed for serious, highly motivated students who want a professional
career as a fine artist. The students move step-by-step through the program’s
curriculum. As each requisite skill is acquired, a new and more difficult
task is assigned. Students at Academy duCret are encouraged to work
through each assignment at there own pace in a group setting. The program consists of a morning and afternoon session. In the morning session, work from the live model begins immediately. The human form is at the core of our program and students begin immediately learning the intricacies of the human form. Students learn from the live model five days a week for a minimum of three hours a day.
The afternoon session begins from a specially prepared set of lithographs made by Charles Bargue in the 19th century, which begins to teach the student the basic drawing skills of how to achieve correct proportions and accurate rendering. The students then move on to working from casts, first in graphite, then in charcoal, then in oil paint, which teaches drawing and value. The next step will be still life work, which will teach students color, texture and the illusion of three-dimensional form. Advanced students will work on original compositions and be exposed to a multitude of methods for designing and creating original pictorial compositions. With each step of the program the students develop a practical understanding of the materials and methods needed for their personal expression. Our curriculum is designed to not only teach the student how to effectively draw and paint, but also how to develop their ability to think creatively. |
